About Us

The Toledo Chapter of the American Red Cross was chartered in 1916 under the about usleadership of Mrs. Cornell Walbridge. The Greater Toledo Area Chapter was formed following a merger of chapters in Toledo, Port Clinton and Bowling Green in the 1960s. Today, the chapter is governed by a fifty member volunteer board of directors which reflects the diversity of our three counties. A volunteer base in excess of 1,000 people and a staff of 18 serve communities in Lucas, Wood, and Ottawa Counties through three branch locations.

The chapter's services include educating the public about CPR and First Aid, responding to fires, floods, and tornadoes, assisting military service men and women and their families with emergency communication, supporting homebound older adults through our telephone reassurance program, inspiring an ethic of service in our communities’ young people, and much more. All the services provided by the Greater Toledo Area Chapter are made possible through the generous contributions of time and money contributed by our neighbors and corporate partners in Northwest Ohio.

In addition, the Greater Toledo Area Chapter supports ten additional chapters in 16 Ohio counties. Please visit the Locations page to find information on other Red Cross chapters in the Toledo Region.
