Each year, the American Red Cross, Greater Toledo Area Chapter responds immediately to countless disasters throughout Lucas, Wood and Ottawa counties, helping hundreds of families rebuild their lives and regain hope.

Through these cold winter months, the Greater Toledo Area Chapter is teaming up with Fox 36 to build awareness about fire safety:

Red Cross disaster relief focuses on meeting people's immediate, emergency, disaster-caused needs. When a disaster threatens or strikes, the Red Cross provides shelter, food, and health & mental health services to address basic human needs. The heart of Red Cross disaster assistance is helping individuals and families affected by disaster to enable them to resume their normal daily activities independently.

The American Red Cross also feeds emergency workers, handles inquiries from concerned family members outside the disaster area, provides blood and blood products to disaster victims, and helps those affected by disaster to access other available resources. If you have had a disaster and need emergency assistance, call 419-329-6060 or 888-590-0098. Caseworkers are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to help you.

Be Red Cross Ready!

The American Red Cross is pleased to introduce the new online Be Red Cross Ready public educational program. The purpose of this program is to provide participants with the knowledge to prepare for possible disasters and other life-threatening emergencies. Emergency preparedness is a primary role of the American Red Cross and this new online program enables the Red Cross to easily reach individuals who utilize the Internet.

The content of this program reflects the most up-to-date information available and is in concert with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Content is updated with the latest science for first aid, CPR and emergency cardiovascular care.

You can access the online Be Red Cross Ready presentation directly by clicking on the following link to the national Web site for The American Red Cross:  http://www.redcross.org/beredcrossready.
