Golf Outings
The weather was perfect for the 22nd annual Ottawa County Golf Scramble on April 19. Close to one hundred golfers laced up their cleats and helped raise over $9,500 for the Ottawa County District Office. We send our thanks to the Eagle sponsors which included Brush-Wellman and Lake Erie Business Park and Birdie sponsors Northern Manufacturing and Ohio Edison.
Other golf outings benefiting the Greater Toledo Area Chapter of the American Red Cross included the Buckeye CableSystem Cabin Fever Open on April 4-5 which brought in $2,000; as well as the United Labor Committee Drive for the Red Cross on May 16 that raised $12,000.
OSCAR Night 2008
Over 500 people were in attendance on February 24, 2008 for an evening of "Glamour and Glitz in the Golden Age" as the American Red Cross celebrated OSCAR Night 2008. The red carpet was rolled out for this event at the Center for Fine and Performing Arts on the campus of Owens Community College. It was an evening filled with friends, fun, dancing, music, glamour, and the best food and drink in town! Guests danced to live music, savored delectable treats, and witnessed the Academy Awards on the big screen.
The American Red Cross is grateful for our “Red Carpet Sponsor” Columbia Gas of Ohio, and for the host of additional sponsors, participating restaurants and volunteers who helped to make this event a success. Thank you for making OSCAR Night 2008 so special!

January 23rdwas a greatnight of fun, friends and fashion as theAmerican Red Cross prepared for Toledo’s glitziest night of the year…OSCAR Night! Guests enjoyed fashions by Sophia Lustig & Gallippo's, jewelry from Harold Jaffe Jewelers and expert demonstrations from local beauty salons. There was adviceon makeup, skin care and physical fitness experts, as well as hor d’oeuvres, wine, coffee and desserts by The Beirut and Poco Piatti. Annual Meeting/Volunteer Recognition For the first time in 15 years, both the Chapter and Blood Services came together to hold our Joint Annual Meeting and Volunteer Recognition. The meeting was held on September 27th at the Center for Fine & Performing Arts at Owens Community College. Over 200 Red Cross staff, board members and volunteers attended the collaboration. Congratulations to the following individuals and businesses for their commitment to the American Red Cross!

Ribs on The River
The second annual Columbia Gas Ribs on the River sponsored by CitiFest was held August 3-5, 2007 in Promenade Park in downtown Toledo. Mouth watering BBQ ribs from 20 local,regional and nationalvendors and restaurants were featured. Musicfrom some of the area's best entertainers, as well as festival food, pop and ice cold beer were also on hand.
Participantswere encouraged to vote for the People's choice award for the best BBQ which was awarded to Po' Mo's of Toledo. A new addition this year was Piggy's Playland Family Area presented by Owens Corning, which featured creative crafts, miniature golf and fun rides for the younger crowd.
TheRed Cross providedover 350 volunteers for various jobs throughout the weekend and benefited from proceeds from the event.

Catawba Island Club Event The Catawba Island Club Boat Show Kick-off Event was held on May 4 at the CIC Club in Port Clinton. Close to 80 guests enjoyed appetizers, cocktails, a strolling dinner and live music from Dennis Samson & Nightbreeze. Spirited silent and live auctions were held with proceeds going to the Ottawa County District Office. The Chapter would like to thank the sponsors of the event, the donators for the auction items and Jim Stouffer and his staff for going above and beyond to make the evening such a success!

Nightingale Gala The Greater Toledo Area Chapter and community volunteers paid tribute to local nurses who provide highly skilled, safe and quality care in a variety of settings. The Nightingale Gala Dinner and Dance was held at The Pinnacle on May 6 and featured music from 56 Daze. Proceeds from this event benefited the Care for the Caregiver Program administered by the Chapter. The steering committee would like to thank the major sponsors which include Paramount Health Care, AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals, Haematology-Oncology Associates of Ohio and Michigan, Lourdes College, The Pinnacle, Heartland Home Health Care & Hospice, HCR-ManorCare, St. Luke’s Hospital and Spartan Chemical.

St. Practice Day Under the big top in the Franklin Park Westfield Mall parking lot was the place to be on March 9 & 10, for St. Practice Day sponsored by Cumulus Broadcasting. This one-of-a-kind "pre-St. Patrick's Day party" was a 2-day event featuring live music, great food, fun prizes and of course, cold beer! Approximately 9,000 peopleattended St. Practice Day with proceeds going to the Toledo Firefighters Union, Local 92 and theGreater Toledo Area Chapter of the Red Cross.
We would like to extend our sincere appreciation for the community support and hard working volunteers who helped make this a successful event.
