“I chose to be a part of the American Red Cross Youth Council because I enjoy my
role as a humanitarian. It is my passion to support people in serious need of help.
I also love participating in events to raise money for the disaster relief, measles
vaccination, Haiti relief, etc. As a graduate I am definite that all the skills I learn
from the American Red Cross will my impact future career.”
Nana Pokuah Appiah
Youth Council President, University of Toledo
“Along with being an active member of the Youth Council, I have been a member of
the Roy C. Start High School Red Cross club for four years now. I have been an
active member of the Red Cross Youth Council for three years.
I enjoy helping others and American Red Cross makes this possible by offering many different
volunteer opportunities throughout the year, and that is why I keep coming back."
Warifa Azeez, Vice President
Senior at Start High School
“I love to help people and meet new people. It gives you a sense of accomplishment
when you help someone, and that goes a long way. I’m looking forward to
meeting new, cool people because you can make bonds that last a lifetime. While
volunteering with the American Red Cross, you are able to mature and grow as a
person while having fun.”
Kyle Alston, Secretary
Junior at St. Francis de Sales High School

“The American Red Cross is an important organization that touches the
lives of millions. As a member within the youth community, I take pride
in advancing the mission of the American Red Cross. In order to achieve
this mission, I actively participate in the Youth Council.”

“I have been volunteering with the ARC Youth Council since high school, and have
really enjoyed it. I've met a lot of new people from being a part of this group.
We're constantly working on new events and helping out in the community. Events
like Global Youth Service Day, are so much fun and make me feel really
good because I know that I'm helping others. Our social events keep the council
close; the whole group is friendly and helpful to each other.”
Stacey Miles, Publicity
Freshman at the University of Toledo; undecided major
“I became involved with the American Red Cross because I wanted to meet new
people, make new friends, and help the community through a great organization. At
school, I am a member of Z club, Mu Alpha Theta, and National Honor Society. I
have also participated in Girl Scouts for 13 years, and volunteer at the Toledo Art
Museum. I hope to one day travel the world and eventually settle in Italy or
Greece. Volunteering is something that I love doing in my free time.
Tessa Elliott, Social Events
Senior at Start High School
“My favorite hobbies include playing tennis and volunteering. I love to help out at
various agencies, including an elementary school and a hospice. I feel that the happiness
that comes from helping others is priceless and unparalleled. No matter how
small in comparison, I can impact the community around me. Volunteering with the
Red Cross Youth Council is helping me recognize this goal.”
Ronit Shah, Fundraising
Senior at St. John's High School
“What keeps me coming back to the American Red Cross is my desire to do great
work in this world. I like knowing that there are people who care enough about the
well-being of the world to do something about it; the American Red Cross allows me
to be a part of that. There are so many people that need help in this world and I
like knowing that I’m working toward helping them.”
